In what has been a disappointing season for Manchester United, their youth teams continue to be a source of pride.
U18 Man Utd recently made 9 changes and still defeated Leeds United 4-0 to maintain the perfect start to the new campaign with 13 absolute wins. A few hours later, the U21 team also impressed with a big victory over Norwich at Old Trafford.
Man United are well aware that positive results are the product of hard work at youth level. In fact, the real success of this academy is that 249 players have made their debut for the first team.
Young star Man Utd impresses.
The head of the Academy, Nick Cox, said he was really curious to see who would be next. That could be Sam Mather, one of the great talents of U21 Man Utd.
The 19-year-old star was one of the key players who helped Man United win the FA Youth Cup two years ago, scoring two goals on the way to the final. His two teammates at that time, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, are currently shining in the first team.
Mather’s rise was slowed by ιnjury and now it seems he is making up for lost time. This player only took 15 minutes to score a hat-trιck in the first half, helping U21 Man Utd defeat Norwich 4-2 at Old Trafford.
